To reach male youth by speaking about my story that forever changed my life and introducing activities and introducing thoughts of "doing something different" that takes away interest of guns and potentially harming someone.  Being a mentor to guide against poor decisions that would lead towards attaining interest in firearms or any activity associated with possibly taking away one's life unnecessarily and speaking to adults who are licensed to carry a firearm about the importance of safe gun handling. Overall, to mentally shape the young mindset that guns are wrong outside of self-defense moments and not meant to be shown off or acquired under the age of 21. Due to the Atlanta metro area thriving in the Entertainment Industry of Television and Film, our foundation wants to get youth, specifically males interested, as a career path to deter street oriented mentality and re-shaped their outlook towards positive decisions. As there is a wealth of wonderful opportunities the TV/Film industry has to offer from acting in front of the camera to learning the skills behind the scenes. Lastly, to take away the "wrongful mindset", that having guns is an empowerment for youth, when in fact it is a very false sense to have. The real power for a young man, is having a "Suit", which is a reflection of a powerful  future and career.

FOUNDER

I am Davon Jones, and this my story…..My accidental gun shooting of my two family friends’ is the deepest part of my life. It was an incomprehensible and unimaginable tragedy that has scared me for life. I wish I could turn back the hands of time and have had better judgement of my actions that fateful evening. Through my friend’s interest in firearms, the victims related to my story, I developed the interest in guns, as well, over time.  I wish I had NEVER ALLOWED that to have happened.  Accidentally harming another human being is one of the most distressing experiences one can ever imagine, and coping poses many challenges. I caused not only a death, but two deaths, and can NEVER forgive myself. My grieving heart will forever have an emotional wound that will be healing forever…

 

There are good people who have unintentionally harmed others, whether it was by guns or something else. Most of us feel grief, guilt, and distress about our accidents. When you take someone’s life as I did, playing with a gun or mis-handling a gun, you realize that you’ve taken everything from that person. Yes, it was an accident, but I was responsible for it. I caused it. How does one forgive themselves for that?  I believe God knows it wasn’t my intention to hurt anyone. Over time, we learn that our mistake does not have to define us. There is no easy path to peace. I want people to use their sadness to open a line to others pain because I guarantee no one knows like those who have accidentally killed, especially a loved one. Try to find others who can support you and realize there is no “normal” way to cope. Each person’s experience and background is different. But always remember you are not alone....

 

 Eventually you will see that life can still be good and you can help others by sharing your experience like I am with you. Each of us must find our own way through this dark night of the soul. Although we cannot change what happened, we can control how we respond….And, I am responding by dedicating the rest of my life through the creation of this foundation by educating and informing adults the extreme importance of firearm safety and to encourage youth to strongly take interest in other things positive such as Sports, Music, Arts, and emphasizing the importance of Education or obtaining a skill that can lead towards being a beneficial asset in their life.

 

The “Healing Lives and Saving Lives” Foundation will be a journey and a New chapter in my life and my family's to work towards saving lives from gun accidentals.
